Banita Sandhu opens up on diversified culture of Bridgerton world

When questioned about diversity in the world of Bridgerton and inclusion of different races, Sandhu had an extremely wise answer to give. She said, “First of all, I am so thankful for Shondaland for doing it because I think it’s really opening the door for more actors like myself and Simone to be in mainstream productions. But, I have also noticed that people assume that Shondaland is taking creative liberty by adding more people of colour in Bridgerton world. Although, the fact of the matter is Indian worlds in the england in the 1800s did exist but we never knew those stories. Those stories were never documented or told, so we don’t really realise that it happened. You know Queen Victoria’s Godchildren were Indian royals. They were Duleep Singh- the last maharaja of Punjab’s children.”

She then continued, “So I really hope that those true stories that were present will now like start being told because Shondaland has paved the way and included us in that era. Because, we did exist…we just were never documented.”

Prior to Bridgerton Season 3, Banita Sandhu’s work include G2, October, Sardar Udham, Mother Teresa and Me and other.
